Residents Committees

Important Information

Forming a Residents' Committee

Under the Retirement Villages Act 1992, residents of a retirement village have the option to elect a Residents’ Committee if they choose.

  • Election: Residents can elect a committee either through a direct vote among themselves or through an election organized by the administering body upon request from:
At least five residents or 10% of the total resident population (whichever is greater), or
A majority of occupied residences if there are fewer than ten.
  • Incorporated Association: Residents can form an incorporated association to act as the Residents’ Committee. This decision must be made through a special resolution, as outlined in Appendix A.
  • Other Committees: While only one Residents’ Committee can exist, additional committees can be formed for other purposes, such as organizing social activities.
