What to Expect from Village Retirement WA

Representing Residents’ Interests

Our Council, and member of the Legislation & Advocacy Committee, provides direct resident-cantered input to Government about proposed changes to policy relating to retirement communities. Influencing and advocacy.

Our Committee influences and advocates for changes to Government policy, and to industry positions, through various channels to advance and protect the rights and interests of all retirement community residents.

We collaborate closely with operators and village management training providers to convey a resident’s perspective on a range of matters identified by our Committee.

Providing Information and Education

Our website features a collection of freely available articles for individuals residing in, transitioning from, or considering moving into a retirement community.

We conduct face-to-face or video-linked presentations to keep Members informed on important topics, including community constitutions, resident committees, and changes to retirement community regulations.

Assisting and Supporting Members

Village Retirement WA (WARVRA), specialist advisors, assist and support individuals with issues concerning their community operator under the Retirement Villages Act 1992 or their residency contract.

As needed, we offer guidance and support to financial members or their families regarding community exit costs and entitlements when members leave their community.

Members can contact us at any time with general inquiries about retirement community matters. They will also receive regular newsletters on topics relevant to retirement community living.
Please note – we do not intervene in disputes between residents or similar matters.

Supporting and Educating Resident Committees

We provide individual support, upon request, regarding committee operations (including community financial matters).

Members are encouraged to attend quarterly General Meetings featuring guest speakers and annual educational workshops throughout the year. We also support rural members with annual visits to communities across the state.

Upon Invitation From a Village or Committee

Village Retirement WA (WARVRA) Council members or sub-committee members will address groups of residents in your Village about the association’s work and current industry issues.

Sessions are complimentary and typically last one hour. All community residents are invited and encouraged to attend. After the session, non-members have the opportunity to join the association.
